Ok, I am new to Datastream. I have been giving the task of getting this setup in our company. My question where do I start. I think I should start by making an equipment hierarchy. But how do I know where to place my equipment? I mean from a Location, System, Positions or Assets.

Thank your, Rick

First register all equipment.
Second register their spare parts, preferably by discipline engineers while you focus on asset hierarchy based on P&IDs maybe.
Third, make PM & their tasks.
UAT and roll out the work order process to enable users to enter manpower, materials and services via work order as a minimum.

Hello mech29,

did you already
- define your processes ?
- define what data should be available ?
- define what KPI should be reported ?
- what modules should be used ?
- what time / money is available ?
- ...

These is the work that is required prior to typing in data and/or defining a hierarchy.
Time and money define also e.g. the depth of it.

* Define your user requirements (by user do not forget any of the users who will use the system: operators, supervisors, planner, maintenance supervisor, craft persons, stockroom personnel, buyers, IT? etc.)

* Define your functional specifications (how the system will address the requirements from the users).
(( from here the system must be configured to suit your reqs/specs))
* how do you will test that the system is doing what you specified? Design tests, build up data required.
* Design training materials
* are any procedures affected by the new system? revise as needed.
* Plan Go Live
- upload data
- cross fingers Smiler

If you've never done anything like this before, then D7i is going to be pretty challenging. There are companies and independents out there who can help you along the way. It'll cast, but it'll be worth it. But the more you do for yourself, the more independent you'll ba when you go live.
