Having just recently started on the a job in the automotive industry for the first time I have been asked to setup MP2 6.0 which I have never before seen. It seems like a good program but I really am at the most basic level with this.
My boss has decided that he wants the equipment no. to automatically augment as new items are entered, but within size constraints - He wants all of the equipment to be divided up into the following sections - 1) Machines, 2) Tools, and 3) Facilites; with the following ranges - 1) equipment nos. 10000-29999, 2) equipment nos. 30000-59999, 3) equipment nos. 60000-100000. However, I have no idea how to set this up Red Face\ - I understood it that the equipment no. is something that can only be assigned by the user typing in the data and at that point and can not be automated, if I'm wrong on this and there is actually a way could someone please tell me.
Any help would be gratefully received, thanks in advance.

The equipment ID must be unique, could be text, numbers, you name it.

One of the things to consider:
Who are your clients?
How do the clients call their equipment.

I agree that there must be standarization but if there are 20 drills in the shop, there must be some system in place to identify them. It doesn't make sense if every body calls an equipment Grand Pooba II two persons call it 1233-4556899-56788
Are there layouts of the plant? Use the nomenclature. If you make your equipment master list and you have only numbers listed, it will be as boring as reading a telephone book. Frowner

Someday the operators will have to fill in the work requests, and once the equipment ID has been entered, there is no turning back. Mad

Don't you have an expert user or support specialist for your software? If yes, pls refer to them. If no, pls read the user manual.

I don't use MP2 6.0, we use SAP PM which is working well contrary to those beliefs it doesn't work. We the users have to make it work for us.

To serialize your eqpt as per your boss' requirement, perhaps explore these ideas (which are my guesses from using SAP PM):
1) Use external numbers as given by your boss, provided your software can give external nos in addition to internal nos which are normally generated by the software upon uploading
2) Divide the item list into 3 groups ie machines, equipment & tools and then mass upload them group by group to get at least the item nos within their respective range or series
3) Also check out whether your software give option to specify item master types eg M for Machine, T for Tool & F for facilities to differentiate among the individual items

Ideas 2 & 3 are particularly useful if your sottware can only give a one serial nos eg only 1000 series instead of multiple series as wanted by your boss.

Good luck & share with us your success! TQ

I don't know where you are based, but I'm in Australia.

The easiest way to set up MP2 equipmentis via an excel upload. There is no automatic number generation, but by using excel you can decide on the format and make the equipment number meaningful - rather than just a random number.

I'm more than happy to help.

regards

Each equipment must have its own unique ID number. First you need to make a list of all the equipment you have in your facility assign each a number. For each equipment that you assign a number you need to break it down into subsystems suchs ad mechanical, electrical, inatrumentation etc then assign these subsytems/components a unique number and indicate the relationship it has with the parent equipment.

Your software help feature give some assistance on this, try using it
