Steven,

Thanks again for the insight. When I got to this organization they had no business processes to speak of; after being here 6 months they do now & they are finding it painful for I have force the accountiability factor. Have already have developed equip heiarchies, built a huge Excel workbook for data migration, and have planned out the entire implementation in phases. Now all I can do is wait till a vendor is selected & then I finally get to talk to Datastream. From what I have been told this has been a 3 year process for this organization to get to this point; reason for hiring me they lost the person to handle this to retirement. We do have two DBA's however they are already stretched to the max maintaining 4 other major programs from GIS, to Construction management; reason for asking about the hosting. As for the consultants only 7 have asked for the RFP and of those I would say only 3 have a chance. The strange thing is that Datastream wants to parnter with another vendor for the implementation which is throwing some red flags within the committee.

Again, my many thanks for your time to respond to my few questions.

TY,
MIKE

Actually AFAIK Datastream's earlier product was MP2 not MP5. I was using MP2 nine or ten years ago.

I don't know what it's like now but at that time it was a shockingly poor product.

Bryan you are right, DataStream flagship was (is) MP2, but to jump into the Client-server arena they purchased Rapier and published it as MP5, later on it was transformed to DataStream 7i.

Hello Everyone:

Situation - 7i has been selected w/o even talking to Datastream as to functionality; this was a political move on someone's part. Request for Proposal open to 'whoever' to be the implementation vendor for 7i.

For myself, was hired to bring on a new CMMS and have implemented FAMIS & TMA in the past however no ideas at all about 7i & this agency wants the responsibility on a third party to implement. A CMMS is a CMMS, each different but alike. Still can not talk to Datastream till implementation vendor selected. Have questions & am hoping you can supply some real life answers.

1. Can 7i handle multiple account codes for WO's, parts buying, purchase orders& with varying percentages?
2. Can 7i handle multiple crafts being assigned on the same WO?
3. Does 7i really require individual licensing instead of concurrent licenses?
4. How cumbersome is the PM scheduling?
5. Does the 'Scheduler' for daily assignments work well or not at all?
6. Does 7i allow you to place identifiers in the work order number sequence? Like PM12345, for preventive maintenance?
7. Overall how anual is Datastream compared to other systems?

Thanks You for your answers.

Hello,

Let me answer some of your questions.

1. Yes and no. It is not a business practice i have encountered however the technology platform that D7I is based on and the way it is designed allows for easy modification. Adding a second account code would be a simple task. Assigning percentages is also something that can be done however that aspect would not be as easy. I would first inquire why it is that your company applies the practice.

2. If by "crafts" you mean specialties, yes. You can also assign certifications needed to do the work and filter the people you assign.

3. No, you can buy individual or concurrent just not both on the same system.

4. If you can use project you can schedule them. You can export from D7I into project, modify it and import it back in. So it can be a very easy and simple tasks if you know how to use the tools.

5. It works, the question I tend to have is more on the lines of the company being able to commit its resources in such a structured manner on a daily basis.

6. I have yet to do something of that nature. There are many ways to filter what type of maintenance is being done on a work order. You have Class of work (PM, Breakdown/corrective, inspections, calibration, and any customized ones you may need) along with that you can filter by name of the work order. Usually a PM carries that in their name. 2000hr - PM Ball valves (example) and the WO would be searchable with the description also.

7. I honestly do not understand what you are asking here.

D7I is an excellent maintenance system and I personally believe it is the best one on the market. Along with doing everything basic you need without many issues it provides you with KPI's and provides you with information in a format that makes it easy to implement advanced maintenance theories and continual improvement.

I work very closely with INFOR, feel free to ask any questions. I will do my best to help you out. If you are still looking for implementors let me know as I do exactly that.

Perry, I have a long standing question about DataStream:

Is it possible (and how) to plan for variable PM's / Inspections incorporated in a operating protocol? It has to do with a main x back-up operating strategy.

Example:
Main pump runs for 12 weeks (3 - months) and goes down for service (1 day) and stays down for 2 weeks
Back-up pump takes over and runs 2 weeks and after that stays down 12 weeks

For the main pump:
PdM wo's (vibration monitoring) during its 3 month operating

For the back-up pump:
PdM wo's (vibration monitoring) during its two week operating.

This in a 24x7 environment (oil refinery)

Question: do you have any examples how this dual scheduling system is implemented?

Regards
