Hi,
Currently my company is doing maintenance for steel plant in Malaysia which include furnace plant and gas plant. In the gas plant, we have motors in which categorized as explosion proof motor. My workshop is also doing servicing for these motor. My main concern is, what is the extra approach or procedure to handle with these Ex motor compared to non-Ex motor? Basically, my undertsanding is, to handle with all Ex apparatus, all bolt and nut must be tigten up and all the surface must have 'gasket' to make sure any spark (if any) will not will not 'slip out' to outside and caused explosion. Is my idea is correct or not? Thank you for your attention... Regards, Fazli |

Hi pisemude
It is a long time since I went to school but very briefly; great care must be used when dismantling an EX motor; avoid damaging the end shield flange surfaces. As for gaskets I’m not to sure Components must be measured and compared there are various tests that must be carried out “well in the UK anyway†Try this for starters then maybe Google Check this out for further info IEC 79-0, IEC 79-7, BS5501.1, |

We are working on a procedure for Ex JB inspection. I guess you have to maintain the Explosion-proof of thoese motors.
