Above is an article in Electrical Apparatus magazine on "wet-winding" machines where the motor is flooded with the pumped fluid as used in some sumbersible pump/motor applications. You can page through 9 pages of it.

They mention a few common problems:

- if water-filled - water boiling at ~ 212F (depending on pressure and dissolved minerals) can be a problem for cooling of bearings and windings -> need to restrict temperature rise
- prefer electrically test in the fluid rather than in air
- torsional resonance associated wtih long shaft
- if run on very slow speed with vfd, can disrupt the film lubrication for sliding bearings.
- corrosion, depending on type of fluid and type of material used in the motor
