I realized this forum is missing a search function when I wanted to look for discussions and links to tech papers for shielded VFD cable. I know it has been discussed before.
I've also seen Knowledge Base folders for threads of specific importance on some very good forums. Back to the subject at hand. We have had some bearing failures on VFD driven motors; the root cause on a few have not been definately determined. I'm looking for technical papers on shielded VFD cable benefits. I'd like to propose to our group that any VFD driven motor that suffers a bearing failure have the motor cable upgraded to shielded VFD cable if the cause cannot be definately determined. Not that we have bearing failures every day, but shaft currents are always brought up with a bearing failure; and this upgrade would be a good overall improvement to the system. Any feedback on my thought process? Any technical papers out there? I forget what I just said, I wasn't listening. JW |

You can find recommendations for preventing bearing currents beginning on page 15-17 of the first pdf here (multicore cables, short impedance path for high frequency common mode voltage, and technique for high-frequency bonding)

There is a company that has a specialized cable for VFD applications that I have dealt with in the past called Zero-Ground:
