Dear All,

Is there a tool for motor current signature analysis available in the market?

If you type MCA into the field of the Find tab you will get 3-pages of discussion links. One sample is:

If you already own a vibration analyzer, then you only have to purchase or borrow a clamp-on current transformer and resistor.

And for medium voltage motors clamp-on a 5 A (to 1000 mV or so) current transformer on the secondary of (one of the) motor phase current transformer in the switch gear panel.
Indeed, as Walt says, basically you need a current transformer and spectrum analyser with a dynamic input range of at least 60 dB.

Mr. Walt,

Thank you for your information. I have vibration analyser but for MCSA/ESA feature is not available.

There are five primary systems available on the market for MCSA/ESA:

Areva's EMPATH system: outstanding system, fairly easy to use.

ALL-TEST Pro's ATPOL: which is a hand-held version of the EMPATH sold through ATPro. The data can be shared/viewed by both systems (it is exactly the same software).

Baker Explorer: Several versions. Their focus is on torsional analysis.

PdMA EMax: Similar to the EMPATH system. You can also include their offline testing in the same box.

Iris Power Engineering's CT Meter: single phase, hand held, current signature only.

The difference between these systems and the vibration systems is that they are dedicated to MCSA/ESA and several even allow for vibration inputs.

I had written an article discussing the difference between the units for UpTime magazine last year, I would have to remember which months (it was a two-parter) that discusses the differences between the systems.
