Do BPFI, BPFO, BPF and FTF have anything to do with the extent of damage in the bearing components? Suppose, there is a single pitting on the inner race and we have some value of BPFI. Now the number of pittings on the race increases to 3, will we see peak at 3XBPFI? As per formulas for bearing defect frequency calculations, these factors are not taken into account? What I think is that, as the no. of pittings increases, rate of occurrence of impact also increases. Can it be responsible for harmonics of bearing defect frrequencies at 3 times BPFI?

AKHTAR, I think you are right, that the number of race defects can sometimes reflect the actual number of defects. Anyway, the number of harmonics is one way of gauging the severity.
