How to use SAP R/3 to generate RCM orders (condition based)?

Are the orders manually created as a result of time based vibration/infrared thermography/etc. inspections scheduled at the PM program?

By condtion-based, do you include running hours?

If defects are found from time-based vibration monitoring, thermograghy etc, yes need to manually create a suborder for rectifying the defects found.

However, for online vibration monitoring system for major rotating equipment, which could be connected to SAP PM as per SAP PM book, may be autotriggering of work orders is possible.

I know that there are some applications that maintenance orders are created automatically from the signals of the indicators such as pressure transmitters.

Thorin, how is it possible? Is the SAP connected to DCS?

Yes, I dont know the exact details. I mean which program do they use for it. One of my friend is SAP consultant and he told me that he has seen a company which uses PM module and also they had been creating maintenance orders from the critical alarms. So, it might be DCS or interface program which is connected to SAP.

By RCM do you mean: is your SAP looking at voltages from process and/or vibration transducers. Some control valves and process and monitor motors voltage/no voltage and sensors. This can allow you to tie you system together and automate.

Sorry if I'm missing your request.

Yes Sam.

To say that this group of orders generated at SAP R/3 are RCM orders vs PM orders or Corrective orders; how should they be generated?

Initially I thought that if I monitor a condition (vibration, voltage, etc.)using time based inspection orders (PdM?) and the result tells that a particular action must be done, should I call the order for the required maintenance a RCM order or it is just a corrective order?

Unless you're trying to achieve some objective with a personal agenda I think or consider it to be a 'normal' corrective order. The source of your investigation may be many disciplines (thermal, vibration, etc) but the WO is a WO regardless how you made the decision to implement a WO. Or, I could be having a narrow view. The human calls the final shot regarless of the technology used to derive at the decission IMHO. Of course what I'm saying isn't set in stone and there's more than one way to get to Rome.

If you want to distiguish & track all RCM-related work orders eg for a new RCM project from existing time-based PM, I guess you can create a new PMActType entittled RCM which will enable you to sort.

We have moved away from multiple PM Order Types with the exception of Capital vs Expense.

This said, we utilize the Maintenance Activity Type to distinguish different types of work.

ex.
Corrective - Used for orders created from notifications initiated from failed equipment.

Preventative - Mostly used for orders generated from PM Plans, some orders from notifications if they fit the criteria of preventing a failure.

From Preventative - Orders created from found work while executing orders from PM Plans

Predictive - Mostly used for orders generated from PM Plans intented to perform predictive work. ex. Vibration analysis route pm.

From Predictive - Mostly used for orders generated from PM Plans that generate from predictive technologies, some orders from notifications if they fit the criteria of being initiated from predictive technologies like infra red, vibration analysis, oil anaysis, smart signal, etc.

We also have activity codes for
Safety - Mostly used for Safety related orders from PM Plans
Compliance to regulations or internal Policy and Procedures
Environmental - Used for Orders from PM Plans that are directly related to environmental mitigation strategies.

We use both order types & Maint Activity types to distinguish the work types & activities udern them for more details of classifications really.

Where is the field for the activity codes? Why you relate the consequences to the activty codes?

Sorry for the poor wording, they are all Maintenance Activity Types

Ok Guys

The RCM program Orders can be triggered with an interface into the DCS systems. Or by a measurement reading entry for an inspection point on the object. That inspection point must have the counter selected.

A strategy must be created for Hour reading in IP11 with the Cycle Lengths identified

A maintenance strategy plan is then created for that strategy in IP42

Note you can also use IP42 for multiple counters.

That strategy is used to create a
