Have you used your planning board in SAP PM?

We have used it for shceduling work orders for routine maintenance works. However for massive nos of work orders espcialliy during turnaround/shoitdown, it appears planning board is not sufficient because we cannot get the S-curve/progress curve from it. So can we copy all work orders to Microsoft Project which can provide progress curve once coupled with Microsoft Excel? Have anybody interfaced SAP PM with Microsoft Project & Excel before especially on how to download actual progress dates back into SAP PM after completion of works ?

Appreciate sharing of valuable experience in advance. TQ

Looking into this message board you seems to have lot of enthusiasm in discussing topic on PM.

Normally, for shutdown it is better to use Project system. PM order can be linked to network activities. Project system allows you to do rough cut capacity planning and scheduling. Detailed execution planning can be done with planning board.

SAP can be integrated with external project management tools like MS project, primavera......

My interest originates from hard-working experience in doing it. Have you managed shutdown schedule with work orders & schedule both in SAP? Fyi, we have not configured & used the Project system in SAP. TQ

NIce to know that you are having such a nice hard working experiance and have such a wide knowledge of Differant CMMS solution. Good on you ...

I have used SAP PS with Integrated PM. As mentioned before PS is used to do a rough cut intial planning and once orders are attached to network you can start the detailed scheduling using Planning board. As the work gets identified ad attached you get more realistic understanding of how much work can be executed and how much buffer you have as far as resoruces you may have.

I have not tried external PS But I know few people have also used MS project or Primavera. MAy be some one from Forum can answere better than me on that topic.

Have fun

Customers interested in Primavera and SAP integration have a number of options:

IMPRESS Software - IMPRESS offers an SAP-certified interface between Primavera and SAP

The Consultants Registry - TCR offers prebuilt interfaces between Primavera and SAP

Laborlogix - The LaborLogix DataPath integration server can be used to create integration between Primavera and SAP and any additional in-house business applications.

Intech Professionals - Project Transporter is a pre-built interface between Primavera and SAP

Any other Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) tool - Mercator, WebMethods, ActiveWorks, etc. The Primavera Integration API facilitates integration efforts by providing a business-rule integration layer.

Visual Basic or any other programming tool
Customers should work with their Primavera sales representative to understand which option is the best choice for their particular situation.

Hello All,

My company developed the Graphical Work Order Scheduler for SAP PM scheduling. The tool exists inside of SAP. It is not an interface solution.

If you are interested please have a look at our website. You will find general inforation and video downloads.

Cheers!

Hello all,
yes, integration MSP/SAP is possible and prooved!

We are a Microsoft Premier Partner in Germany and developed PSLink, the leading integration of Microsoft Project with SAP. This bidirectional integration product has lots of references in different countries already. For more details please have a look at http://www.theprojectgroup.com/E/pslink

Yes
Electrical Generation Utility
Coal and Gas Plants

We are currently using it for our Major Maintenance work cyles. This has been used on two Coal 2yr majors and 1 gas plant major inspection. Took time to set up however, currently working well and providing great integration for budget, actuals, purchasing, maintenance and schedule.

We are trialing it as well in the routine maintenance department as well. Up until now we have used CM02 Capacity planning to the week, however we are working with one of the supervisors using the planning board to dispatch to the day. This is going well, however takes a bit of config to make it user friendly.

Basically we are on the path to replace all use of MS Project and P3-Primavera.

How does it allow for re-scheduling dates in the work order?

Can you plot progress/S-curve from your planning board? We can do so using MSP or P3P.

I do not link MSP and SAP but I reference Order number for each job in MSP. In shutdown period, I manage in MSP only for progress tracking and report and use excel for plot S-curve by import overall %complete from MSP. I've use this method for four turnaround in our plant, that's successful.

Note: PS in SAP never use it.
