Im not sure if we are allowed to discuss the pros and cons or even name our maintenance software, but I think its worth discussing because there are a few now. Im interested to see how many gurus there are out there and what tips people have or want to share?

It should be fool proof! It guides the users how to use it meaningfully. Otherwise garbage in garbage out.

You can refer to SAP PM thread for further details.

I don't know about Elipse. Is it a best of breed CMMS only or a business management suite?

Looking at the web page, we can't compare the two at all

  • SAP is aiming at big business, while the Eclipse suite is aiming at the small to medium enterprise, looking at the on-line store I think the price will be somewhere around 4-$6000 , that will not even pay 1 day consultancy costs for SAP
  • Eclipse is designed for Quick Books,
  • SAP is designed for organizations that have at least 7 digits on their bank account to spend and will not feel the difference of $1.000.000 missing
  • SAP runs on expensive systems like Oracle

Both systems have their merit, but are not comparable.

I am using ellipse right now, please check www.mincom.com

I think cmms is cmms and eam is eam, they are all the same in philosophy, it depend on us how to get the maximum benefit of it. Also, the capability to integrate many different applications in our company should be the main consideration whe we implement eam.

Ellipse mostly use in mining industry because it has another software that support mining operation such as minescape.

Ellipse also aimed at the big business, mining industry is booming right now, isn't it?

Is this the ellipse you are talking about?

What does Minescape do?

I thought there is a CMMS within each EAM. SO compare CMMS with CMMS regardless of the industry or brand.

A few answers:

Mincom Ellipse is used in asset-intensive industries like Mining, Defense, Utilities and Transits. It is a full featured EAM complete with Asset and Work Management, Financials, Procurement, Materials, etc...some companies and organizations use it entirely for their entire ERP / EAM.

Mincom Minescape is a graphical mine planning tool for Mining Engineers.

I have implemented Mincom Ellipse and SAP. As Mincom Ellipse was built with the Assets and Work Management in mind, its fully integrated modules (Operating Stats, Prod Stats, Maintenance Scheduling) work quite well for Asset-Intensive industries. SAP's Plant Maintenance module, while quite capable, grew from the Manufacturing sector and doesn't handle statistics and scheduling as elegantly.
