Hi!
Can anyone demonstrate a working system in SAP for testing trips and alarms? We currrently test our trips and alarms, and report faults, in an off-line system, and are considering migrating this functionality into SAP. Problem is, we don't know anywhere where this has worked better than our current system, especially with a user-friendly input screen for the hundreds of loops this covers.

This topic appears related to my other post on instrument loops. What we have done is that we create work order for the trip and control loop testing. Now the exercise to gather and register all instrument loops in SAP has started to record their histories for data analyses. Other than that, I heard calibration works can be represented in SAP.

Thanks for the quick response! What keeps your techs using SAP and not setting up systems of their own that are 'easier' (at least for them)? A company strategy (no option but to use SAP)? In my experience, techs (especially instrument...) set up databases, spreadsheets of their own. How do you stop this? Training in SAP??
I need to enthuse others about the advantages of having all the data in one place, and am fighing an uphill battle against the user-friendliness of SAP. Does it just take time for people to get used to the jargon?

Convincing people is a tough thing to do for whatever purpose I guess!

In our case we have used SAP for some years but not much data analysis done. So people are not sure of the benefits of using SAP.

Then there is a program to fully utilise SAP. So multi-discipline team was formed immediately with the expert user as the focal point. The team memebers were involved in initial training to explore and familiarize with the functionalities themselves. For the focal point, it's necessary to know the current work processes which can be achieved in SAP.

One key theme to integrate aspects of work processes is to measure reasonable reliability & availability of equipment at optimum lifecycle cost. This theme should jive with why maintenance exists and how to measure it? This means the PMIS has to be set up properly for meaningful analyses.

That's all I can share for now.

Which version of SAP are you using. In 4.6 you can add the equipment as objects and enter those results as Pass or Fail. This is usefull to build routes.

A second option is the inclusion of inspection points and record the results either on the work order or equipment files

I know to use the object list in WO but haven't see how to enter pass or fail in there.

Also interested to know how to record results in WO or eqpt files.

Maybe you could kindly attach some examples for us to see.

Josh

On the object tab in the work order there are boxes on the left hand side. Those are where the pass or processed is selected. There is a separate transaction that will bring up the object list for a work order. Unfortunatly I currently do not have access to SAP. I should be starting a new project in a couple of weeks and will furnish some examples

The second option is to set up inspection points and record them from either the inspection side or from the equipment screen
