Hi MM Expert,

I don't know reason why they do not purchas material base-on reorder point and keep stock level in safety stock? or all they STUPID? Never think to provent material shortage that's impact for maintenance order. Who are SAP-MM expert? Please expain method of material management. Panuphan B. Before frustrated, better talk to them and investigate why. When I was SAP PM, my scope keeps on expanding to include SAP MM and Accunting to make SAP PM fully working. So take the leadership!
I would like to know whether the reorder point is set in the first place. Do maintenance guys register all their spares, defines whether they are stock with their min/max levels, non-stock, capm, etc and update their equipment bills of materials. How do you manage material return to warehouse if not used? How do you do material cataloging? These questions should be answered by maintenance guys first, I guess. This message has been edited. I am no MM expert but wish to make comments.
Are requisitions being automatically created when the material quantity drops below the re-order point? If your SAP Material masters are properly configured then there is little need for the warehouse officer to think. Reservations can also made to PM Orders and if they are properly scheduled in SAP then you can ensure that all parts are available when needed. You can even make it so that purchase orders are automatically generated and sent to the vendor. All your Warehouse officer needs to do is receipt the goods when they arrive. |

Josh, I've to talk with them many time long and long time ago and share knowledge with them. But they do not never and never listen maintenance planning. Our organization separate Warehouse Division from Maintenance, thier objective focusing how to minimum inventory cost use method by feeling. However, they saided, run MRP everyweek but materials still are shortage? or the problem is bad maintenance strategy? Panuphan B. What sort of material shortages did you face? Pls give examples before we can comment further. Maybe those materials are not considered stock items so no stocks available in warehouse.

Material for critical pump (condensate feed pump)e.g. o-ring mech. seal... etc. I don't why they get these material shortage and some material will go to Singapore.

O ring & mech seal are stock items so these should be procured upon withdrawal but does your company have a price agreement ready to avoid the long purchasing process for this kind of items?

The best approach is using MRP type PD on the material master with safety stock. This way all reservations on orders with a date in the future are taken into account resulting in more of a "just in time" approach for MRO spares. This in conjunction with other settings and some user exit coding for receipts of MRO material and automatically create req's/PO's and then on the receipt side, combining a "PO receipe" with a "goods issue to a work order (when a reservation exists)" are means of automating the entire process.

Can you answer a few questions please:
1) Do you have a written maintenance strategy? 2) Do you have a written repair strategy? 3) Do you have an up to date criticality study? 4) Do you use Bills of Materials (BOMs)? 5) Do you have a written spares strategy? 6) How many of these strategies are referred to when setting stock levels? If you are having trouble setting ROP levels we can help. Kind regards |

Most of these question are in place and during review and implementing e.g. spares strategy. But some of these I'm not sure it is effectiveness or not especially spare strategy.
