Rolling bearings will eventually "fail" (=exhibit vibration symptoms that cause us to replace them) whether we abuse them or not. Our job is to figure out if we have done something that helped them reach an early grave.
Here are some links/documents with great example photo's and associated diagnoses. 1 - NTN – CAT.NO.3017/E - "Care and Maintenance of Bearings" (pages 10 – 26 show various bearing failures) http://www.ntnamerica.com/pdf/Other/3017cat.pdf 2 - SKF Product information 401 – "Bearing failures and their causes". This is one of the downloads available on this page: http://www.alliedbearings.com/downloads/dl_index2.html 3 - Torrington "Bearing Damage Analsyis" http://www.timken.com/products/bearings/services/valueadd/damageanalysis.asp (hit next at the bottom right corner to step through all 5 pages). 4 - FAG Publ. No. WL 82 102/2 ED - Rolling Bearing Damage I have a copy which I downloaded from www.fag.com . I don't have the exact link where I downloaded it. Does anyone have a link? Anyone have any more links like these? This message has been edited. Last edited by: electricpete, |

Any documents for journal or sleeve bearings?
1 - I have an outstanding powerpoint that I got directly from Kingsbury addressing many types of sliding bearing failures (sleeve, tilt pad radial, tilt pad thrust) - 80 slides, 20 MB from Kingsbury. It has no copyright, but too large to attach here.
2 - EPRI GS7352 - Manual of Bearing Failures and Repair in Power Plant Equipment - a good reference if you can get your hands on it. This one is also too big (72MB) and this one is copyrighted. I don't know of any others. Does anyone else? |

Pete, If I can find an FTP site or maybe if I sent you postage paid CD mailer, could I get a copy. Thanks |

Pete, Can you put it in your website?

My website have restrictions. 5MB total storage on the one provided by my ISP (roadrunner). Bandwidth limit on the other (tripod)
But I put it onto rapidshare here: http://rapidshare.com/files/23128454/KingsburyFailures.ppt.html Scroll down and press the "free" button near lower right hand corner. The wait the time period indicated (sometimes a minute), then enter the code displayed, then right-click to download from one of the servers. Again there are no copyright restrictions listed. The author's name is given on the first slide (Joseph Wilkes of Kingsbury, Inc.). If anyone thinks it's inapproprate to post this, let me know. This message has been edited. Here is the F.A.G. rolling bearing failure guide which I downloaded from their website, but can't find the link anymore. It is also not copyrighted.
