Dear All
Is there anyone who use EP2400 for ultrasonic evaluation or know about it? I want to compare it with other equipments such as SDT170 or UP9000 or ones from CSI?
Regards
Farahani

Why can't I find the unit and specifications on a website?...Maybe, because it is not a player. From what I could find (2 pictures and 20 stories, all by the same source) is that someone has another "shirt pocket wonder". Never mind the idea of can it hear a leak. You and I if we simply walked up to a manifold and took out a pocket high-frequency amplifier with the headphones you get to keep from the airlines, we can find a leak if the environment is relatively quiet.
Todays leak detection is more than that, today you need an instrument that will stand off from 30+ feet and hear a leak in a noisy environment. It doesn't have to have frequency tuning it only needs to be able to discern the leak from other background noise.
What is it that you are looking for? Leak detector, bearing analysis or steam traps? The application and the environment you are in is relative to what you want to purchase or spend.
The other instruments you mentioned are "The Players". These instruments the UE, SDT, CTRL, ACCUTRAK, Holroyd (UK) and CSI are the top dogs.
I hesitate answering this question because of the publicity trail this EP2400 is getting from one or two source's...a newsletter which is paid advertisement and a vendor for the product that has two pictures but empty weblinks on the unit...thats it.
If you have spec's on the unit, post them...

Farahani,

I always thought I was reasonably informed about ultrasound products, but I never heard of the EP2400 until now. The Web sites indicate it produces a "buzzing" sound when near a leak. I prefer to hear the true leak sound, so I can really identify that I am detecting a leak and not something else. The listed prices appear much lower than the other "player" products. That's fine if it does the job you have. Depending on your applications, all ultrasound products have more marketing hype than true performance, so buyer beware. My advise is to take the time to spend at least one day in the plant with one or more ultrasound meters before purchase. There is good value and payback for ultrasound, you just have to find it and work for it.

Dear Walt & Jim

You can find the brochures of EP ultrasonic instruments from below links:

EP Brochure 1
EP Brochure 2 (complete)
I only want to compare these products with what you mentioned as “the players”. We are in a technical forum & we are not advocate of any product unless it has some technical preference. I think all of the ultrasonic instruments do one thing: demodulation (heterodyning), so only the accuracy & repeatability of them is an important criteria for comparing. For this comparing, the work practice with any instrument is the best judge. Another good criteria is available accessories, specially various sensors for different applications. Most of ultrasonic instruments look similar considering these two criterions. So I think comparing is difficult, unless there is someone who has worked with different instruments.
I appreciate your reply and wait to hear from you.

Regards,
Farahani
