hi all
how are you i hope that all of you aree in good helth condition dear sirs: i was inspect journal bearing of a steam turbine to check the cohesion force between the clading (white metal) and the base metal using a krautkramer USK 7B instrument and a G5MN probe, and i got echos from the back surface of the clading in some points as shown in the attached file that means there are some discontinuity between the white metal and the base metal ( i did this test the first time). dose that means the bearing is rejected if yes what are your recommendation to repair it to remove all the clading and replace it by new or to remove only the deffected part and rebuild it , if i can rebuild the difected part only (because of the high cost of replacing all the while metal)the connection between the old clading and the new part will be enough. please if any one can help thank you very much eng.ahmad ![]() |

You have posted this question on great message board but I'm not that sure that this is the place to gain advice about NDT related results. I have had a little experience with Ultrasonic testing but not enough to advise you properly. There may be some guys on here with alot of turbine experience using vibration analysis as a tool but they also may be limited with your NDT results. I would be searching for a NDT related message board. I will pass this on to some guys (NDT qualified) I work with to see if they have had similar experiences. I hope this helps Hooch |
