Equipment Diagnostics Specialist Wanted

FPL Power Generation Division operates & maintains FPL Group’s 30,000 MW Fleet of non-nuclear generation. The fleet, which continues to grow, includes Thermal, Hydro, Wind and Solar Generation Facilities. Power Generation Technical Services is a team of subject matter experts (SMEs) who provide technical support to FPL Group power plants and executive management. Our SMEs have years of experience with expertise in plant equipment as well as safety, computer & software technology and environmental management.

A position in Technical Services offers an opportunity to contribute at the corporate level to the operational excellence of our growing fleet of multiple technologies while using advanced applications and processes. The successful applicant will have the expertise for the specific area of the open position along with a broad knowledge of all areas of Power Generation.

In this key role the successful applicant will support the plant operations teams and central maintenance teams in troubleshooting equipment utilizing vibration, performance and other process data; balancing of all rotating equipment including fans, steam turbines, gas turbines and generators. The engineer will also assist in developing predictive tools to monitor equipment condition and performance in order to prevent unplanned events. Additional duties may include performing reliability/risk assessments; performing vendor qualification, selection, & surveillance; providing technical support for outage during equipment overhauls and repairs; providing field support for equipment analysis and startups; participating in root cause analysis; providing vibration specifications for new equipment; assisting with bid evaluations and engineering reviews of vendor documentation and drawing submittals.

The applicant should be able to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate his/her assignments, and act as technical liaison to individuals and groups within and outside the company with the responsibility to act independently regarding technical matters. Due to the 24 hour/day, 7 day/week nature of our business, occasional night and or weekend work as well as call-out for emergencies is sometimes required.

This position is located in Juno Beach, Florida.

Position Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
• 5+ years power plant or rotating equipment experience
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Ability to travel throughout US to support plants as required
