My client, a major manufacturer of specialty metals, is seeking an experienced engineer to lead and reform their maintenance function which supports the company's wide range of manual and automated manufacturing equipment, the building and its' infrastructure. As a direct report of the Maintenance/Engineering/Facilities Manager of this non-union facility, you will be required to implement Kaizen process theory in your day to day work. Primarily, you will provide critical leadership to a team of maintenance technicians which will include, motivation, setting measurable goals and objectives, mentoring, skills improvement and cross training, leading FMEA’s, as well as the implementation of a newly developed PM program. Aside from possessing a broad technical background relative to the technology at this facility, you must bring the necessary expertise to develop and improve the standard of the current maintenance operation from acceptable to excellent. You must be adept at identifying weaknesses in systems, procedures, individual performance etc., and know how to turn these things around.

Typical maintenance activities for the team include welding, fabricating, furnace rebuild as well as equipment troubleshooting and repair. Some of the more major manufacturing equipment includes forging, extrusion, rolling mills, swagers, presses, lathes, and a wide range of high temperature furnaces. Some of this equipment is CNC or PLC driven. Major facility systems and equipment include water, power, HVAC, overhead cranes etc. As Sr. Supervisor you will need to be a very careful and effective planner so as not to compromise the productive capacity of the plant. You will also manage the selection of, and onsite coordination of outside contractors necessary to maintain the facility. Given the daily challenges presented to the maintenance team in this facility, you must be prepared for, and enjoy, a hands-on role.

Background and experience:

You should have an engineering degree, preferably at the Bachelor level in either mechanical or electrical, combined with 7+ years of heavy industrial maintenance experience and at least 5 years of effective leadership. You will be considered a preferred candidate if you have gained your maintenance experience in one or more demanding industries where high expectations of maintenance personnel exist and where equipment downtime has serious ramifications on the business. My client is looking for a broad personal and technical skill set to enable this person to be effective in their role. Specific technical skills that will set you apart will include experience with maintaining/rebuilding combustion systems AND/OR functional with Siemens or Allen Bradley PLC software. Specific management experience that will set you apart will be your record of improving or turning around the performance of a maintenance team.

Your supervisory skills must be well developed and include effective training to develop direct reports. You should have prior experience of managing by objectives, be highly organized and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. As this is a highly challenging and visible position, you must also have superior communication skills and the ability to engage the trust and respect of your team and other employees.

This is a 1st shift position, but you should expect to be 'on call' for emergency situations, to ensure continuous maintenance coverage.

You must possess a current fork truck and overhead crane license or be prepared to acquire such licensing.

You must be able to read blueprints and wiring diagrams and capable of learning the entire site's major mechanical and electrical infrastructure systems as well as the functionality and operation of each piece of manufacturing equipment. Must also be able to install, operate and troubleshoot all types of A/C and D/C electrical equipment.

You should have basic computer skills and ideally be familiar with SAP. Ideally your CMMS experience should include Maximo.

You should have knowledge of ISO quality systems and procedures. My client's facility has very high quality and safety standards and you will maintain JSA's and conduct JSBO's.

You must have strong problem solving skills and be comfortable making decisions.

How to apply:

My client offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive range of benefits including relocation assistance. Please email your resume to KLS Services, LLC, kts28@aol.com. Cover letters should state why you are interested in this position and emphasize relevant experience. Please also indicate your desired compensation range.
