I was wondering if anyone here has any experience using synchronous belts and pulleys in the following type of application.
I work for a concrete paver manufacturer and our multilayer machine uses v belt drives for the tamper head vibrators .The vibrators are braked through the motors via a brake module in the control panel, the problem we're having is excessive wear in the belts and the pulleys due to slippage, the belts have to be tensioned every week and still the pulleys will only last for 4-6 months, belts are sometimes torn up in a week. The vibrators have to slow down quickly otherwise we have to extend the delay before the mold carries the pavers forward and deposits them on the cube.If they don't slow down or the delay is too short then pavers will fall out of the mold and destroy the cube of pavers, I realise some of this is industry specific and may not mean much to most people but I'm trying to give as information as possible. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or ideas. Steve |

Contact Optibelt: http://www.optibelt.com/engl/index.html
They have a product called the Red Power II that we are using in a rough application, as well. It seems to be lasting starts, stops, etc. that other belts were failing in a matter of a month or two. They can also help you select the proper belt tension for the application. There are formulas for calculating the shear strength of the teeth on cogged belts in the T. B. Woods Mechanical Product Selection Catalog.

Thanks for the replies ,we already use optibelt belts through a local supplier so I'll check them out first and I'll have to look at the catalog tomorrow.
