I think predictive and prognostic technologies are increasing in both frequency and scope as well as effectiveness. CBM+ is a term used to drive this. A search will show the scope, US DoD directive mandating CBM+ on all future platforms. The technologies are often developed but the process is still weak. Current efforts I am aware of still focus on technologies instead of techniques as previously stated, but I believe it's getting better.
