Hi I'm putting together a presentation on the dangers of cutting maintenace budgets and am looking for examples of where cutting back relatively small amounts of maintenace expenditure led to, or contributed to a catastrophic failure.

I would like to be careful when talking about cost reduction because have to know first what is the target optimum cost eg 1 to 3% of CPRV per year or comparable to benchmarks. So if your current cost is above this range, cost cutting may be needed. But if your cost is about 2%, reducing to 1% to be ideal could be dangerous.

Also what is the definition of maint budget? Does it include maint opex, shutdown cost & spare part cost? Does it exclude maint capex?

Gud luck for presentn!
