Hello,

I'm not sure if I should post this here...but I'm searching for a good book on HVAC. I am more interested on the air side of it and so I need one giving the basic design of systems( air flows, duct pressures, unit sizings, heat/cooling loads, outlets, filters, etc), their balancing, operation & maintenance and if possible something on clean rooms. I tried amazon but there are quite a lot and since most are expensive for my pockets I thought someone might give me some suggestion thus helping me to put the money where I need it most. Thanks alot

Merry Christmas and Wishing you All a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Are you most interested in residential or commercial HVAC? I'm not a HVAC guy but I do work for Trane and should be able to get some recommendations for you.

Thank you Joe,

I'm more interested in the industrial side of it rather than residential.

cheers

Trane's Air Conditioning Manual is a really good starting point. Fairly comprehensive in it's coverage of industrial HVAC. Also take a look at the ASHRAE Handbooks. There are four of them (Refrigeration, Fundamentals, HVAC Systems and Equipment and HVAC Applications). For cleanrooms I have found Cleanroom Technology, by W. Whyte very useful. Deals mainly with the design of cleanrooms, but I have been able to use the info in it to troubleshoot problems with clean rooms that are already in service. Good Luck.

Rennie,

I have "HVAC Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing Manual 3rd Edition" by Gladstone & Bevirt McGraw-Hill ISBN 0-07-024184-8

I bought it to learn more about the operational and testing aspects of HVAC.

Thanks to all who replied.

Giant - do you know how I can take a look at least at the chapters list for the ASHRAE Handbooks. I think HVAC Systems and Equipment and HVAC Applications are the more interesting ones for what I'm searching for.

Walt - I had shortlisted that one....how did you find it???...are practical examples given particularly for balancing. I'm sort of in your same situation....I'd like to learn a bit more to better control our contractors but I thought something more on the design would give a more complete picture.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Rennie,

Probably www.amazon.com

There is a lot of info on flow balancing and the practical measurements necessary. There is also a chapter on sound and vibrations! The book is 459 pages and includes an appendix on Duct Design data and Hydronic Design data. I say buy it, and return it if it is not suitable for you.

I apologize for not getting back to you about this yet. I've not been in the office but I did send emails to the HVAC engineers asking for recommendation and haven't recieved any responses. They may be off for the holidays. As soon as I hear something I will pass it along.

Rennie,

I wasn't able to get any specific recommendations but I was told that the following websites were good and reasonably priced places to get books. www.books4HVAC.com , www.neccdelivers.com , & www.bookmarki.com. I hope this is of some help.
