Hey,

First let me say I am very new to all this. We are moving from an outsourced PdM to inhouse. I got the job and am now scrambling up the learning curve.

The outsource company has a computer with a RBMWare silver installed. Today I installed a Gold and Silver package on two other computers.

Can I take the backup cd the outsource company has and load the database and data into our computers? We are planning a network purchase but we are needing something to practice on now.

Thanks,

Aub

Aubrey,
Sure you can. All you need from the backup is the .rbm file. Copy it into your "custdata" folder. It has been a while since I used a stand alone version; look in the rbmnet folder or the rbmsuite folder for the custdata folder. It won't synch up yet, so the first thing to do is run the bandaid. There is a program called "dbfix" with a bandaid on the icon for it. Launch "dbfix," then select "scan file links only." After it finishes, select "auto fixup." The process will stop on you a couple times. One will be to tell you that it needs to update the schema. It will also stop when it can't find the associated rbmview file. Look on the right side of the window and click on "create new." Give it a name and off you go again. You can do the same thing when you move to the network version too. Good luck.

Aubrey,
David is correct about the location in the stand alone version: C:\rbmsuite\custdata\???.rbm is for the file and if they were generating reports in rbmview you might want to copy that folder also: c:\rbmsuite\custdata\folder(same name as ???.rbm without the .rbm). The .rbm file is the actual database and the folder contains any reports and associated attachments.

Good Luck & Welcome to the Vibration Field,
Ronnie

I bet you could even ask the company who used to do the work to help you set it up.

Any particular reason you need a network version? I haven't used a networked version in a while, but it used to cause a whole other set of problems.

If they only measured, all you need is ???.rbm file. but more convenient is to ask them to CSI-zip the databases. The CSI-zip is a special program on the menu. It will make sure you have all small items and taken over. The manual describes this well. Only difference between silver and higher are the extra features that gold and platinum have. If you want to avoid problems, also make sure the version of the software is the same. Older 4.70, or 4.80 or recent 4.90. You can progress upwards but not backwards. So once the database is opened in a version, you cannot look at it in an earlier version.

Thanks guys,

I found one problem, I only have rev 4.8 and the contractor has 4.9. Apparently they dont like each other. However, I was able to take older information they had backed up and put it on my computer.

The reason we are getting the network is so we can be 3 semi independant teams. The company wants us to work as mix and match teams.I may be gettng datta on a set of equipment one week and the next week another guy may be getting the data. My company feels this is the best way for us to get the best experience on all the equipment. We don't want to be waiting on one computer to download and upload routes. Also, our manager wants to be able to look at the data when he wants without disturbing us. We are a large facility.

Thanks again for the help, Big Grin

Aubrey,
If you have a service contract with CSI, the tech support will walk you through any of your problems. If you do not have the contract,I am in the area and will be glad to help if you are having problems.

Thanks Scott,

Mike, our sales rep, came down and talked to us. Apparenetly I am just gong to have to wait on our IT dept to catch us up on REV.s. Of course, that is after the PO goes through ect ect.

My partner and I will be going to class week of 23rd in Knoxville for the week. "Maybe" by then all those issues will be taken care of.

Good, to see a local guy here. Know where the ear is if I get in over my head!! :-)
