Suggestions for setting up Tacho channel on ZonicBook/618E:

- check the sample rate (F max). higher sample rates provides better tach resolution. for 14kRPM case, suggest Fmax >= 5 KHz.

(increase spectral lines to maintain frequency resolution.)

- if Tach Signal has high runout / noise / scratches / etc... the Tacho inputs may reject tach pulses. in this case, use Analog inputs.

Buzz:

- What is the coupling setting for your Tacho channel? (AC or DC)

Mike.

Can somebody tell me why ZonicBook has 4 tacho inputs? Is it necessary to have 4?

It is if you're looking at a machine train with different speeds within the train (motor, belt drive to gearbox to pump. Several different scenarios come to mind.

You may also want to split out the different machines running close to one another to rule out the cross talk.

I'm sure there are other, more experianced chaps who will give some other reasons.

Rusty,

Did you go the Zonicbook route? If so, what do you think of it?

Aubrey, I never pulled the trigger on this, but it's still simmering on the back burner. I'm more focused now on the best type of all-purpose truck for carrying all my vibration analysis, alignment, and balancing stuff (as well as ultrasonics, thickness testing, CSI oil testing, etc). Seems never to be an end to the things you can spend $$$ on.

As most know, Zonic doesn't exist anymore, they were bought by IOTech, and week before last IOTech was swallowed by National Instruments, so future of IOTech/ZONIC and other legacy stuff from that family is unclear.....bummer.

According to the NI website, they bought IOTech in October of 2005.

Since this post, I have begun using a 24 channel Zonic with EZ-Tomas extensively. I am happy with the system. Although it does some things differently than ADRE, it does almost all the same things. Not only that, but with EZ-Analyst it does a lot that ADRE (at least the 208 version) won't do.

If you wait long enough, sooner or later everthing comes up for sale on Ebay. I bought a 8-channel 618E with EZ-Analyst and 6 cables and accels for $5K recently. It was purchased new with a government grant, and used only 4 hours. Finally, I get a little help from the government. Smiler

Rusty,

I have a 618E, and it is 8-channels. You got a great deal and us taxpayers got screwed again by government waste!

Yes, it has 8 channels, but only came with 6 accels for some reason. I think of this as the Independent Vibration Consultant Stimulus Package... only help I've gotten from the government in the 15 years I've been in business.
