Basically - YES. So many times it's painted too thickly over. And, sometimes an environment will dictate a better hot alignment is necessary.
A number of years back I notified Hoffman of the coupling selection and correct model of the Thomas. You should ensure your machine is fitted with the correct coupling and if thermals are much then consider a different coupling such as a gear type.
