Here's another puzzler (for me anyhow)Has anyone ever experienced this. Network version. All the users from our building have a "G" next to thier name. What is the G and please don't tell me GONE.

Just an FYI, the "G" means gone. I got an answer to my question from IS. We were recently bought out, so our former owners have decided to deny us access to the server. Kind of ironic beings how we footed most of the bill. Such is life.

Roy,
Think Positive. The G means Great. Your bonus check is in the mail! Walt |

Walt,
I am thinking positive. I'm positive that in 4 more days it's no longer my problem (leaving the company to pursue another career). I do feel sorry for the individuals carrying on my legacy though. Will be hard to do monthly data collection with no database. Actually I shouldn't be that way, I've invested a lot of "blood, sweat and tears" on this program over the years and hate to see the "brakes put on" with a couple of key strokes. I tried to convince them to go stand alone before something "BAD" happened. Roy Gariepy Maintenance Tech Cross Generating Station Cross, SC |

Mr. Gariepy,
I am in the software product management department for Emerson in Knoxville. The "G" next to the login names actually means "Guest". Your AMS Machinery Manager administrator must have created the users as "Guests" which means that they will only have read-only access to the software and will not be able to save anything to the database. Users with read/write access will not have the "G" next to their login names. |

Roy -
Bummer! I wish you great luck in your new career and I hope it remains close to maintenance and reliability. You are a great contributor to this board so I can only imagine the contribution you make to the company you work for. Please let us know when you new career starts. Thanks again. Terry O |

Thanks for the kind words Terrance,
I start my new job Monday. I'll be working as an A mechanic for a coal fired power plant, with hopes of "slipping" into a reliability job. They "farm" thiers out, but I do know they have a data collector and software that basically sits on a shelf. Drew, Thanks for the info. I have since figured out what is going on. There have been some changes made in the way we operate here. Used to be one happy family. Since our part of the complex was purchased, and we opted not to pay for any central engineering, the ones in control of RBMware, well that should speak for itself. We have other options that we are looking at,and I hope that I have passed along enough knowledge and enthusiasm to the individuals taking my place that the program will continue to run. I will definitely stay tuned to this forum. |

Roy,
Best wishes for success on your new job. Coal-fired plant vibrations experience is available. Walt w_f_strong [at] msn [dot] com |

Roy G (yes, I noticed the name change
But not long after that, the CEO who started all this crap was booted and replaced with someone who was very down-to-earth, and smart to boot. Things settled down (mostly) and I don't think they've had a major reorganization since. So don't lose hope.... sometimes reason prevails. In the meantime, remember what the 1st CEO told us: "The only job security you have, is to be good enough at what you do to find another job when you leave this one." I took that to heart, and I was... and I'm sure you are too (good enough, that is)... I'm not sure if he was or not (and don't care, either). Hang in there! Regards, Rusty |

Thanks Rusty and Walt.
Yea Rusty, changed my name . Actually didn't had to create a new account for here at work before I leave. I was cleaning things up on my PC including changing my old micjk "handle" e-mail address to my home address and got myself "booted" off the board as a member. Everythings back to normal now. Can't wait till Monday. That's when I start the new job. They have 2 units, not sure of rating, and another in the final stages of construction. They also plan on starting const. of a 4th unit soon with sch. comp. set for 2009. Hope to get involved with the project when it starts. this is definitely going to be a new world for me. I'm used to small equipment. When I took the plant tour during my interview I was like a "kid in a candy store". Extremely awed. Will keep ya'll posted. |

Hey Roy, are you still going to be in the Goose Creek area???
Billy |

Bwze,
Not really. I'll be working at the Cross power house, in Cross, SC right on the rediversion canal between Moultrie and Marion. I actually live in Bonneau @ 1 mile from Lake Moultrie. If I had a fast boat I could be to work in 5 mins. Straight shot across the lake. |

Well, you'd have a big enough parking lot. Pleny of front row spaces.
Congratulations, and I'm glad that you will still be in this field. Billy |
