There was a discussion or reference some time ago regarding dataPAC battery replacement. The vendor batteries are quite costly and I would like to make my own. I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Ron,

I purchased batteries for my Fast Track and 890 from Newark Electronics. I took the old ones, cut away the tape and found the Yuasa numbers and replaced them with the jumper off the original.

I don't know how much IRD wold have charged, but the Yuasa batteries were about $8 each and it took about an hour of soldering and taping. I think the ones in the Datapack are even cheaper than that.

Ron,
We have made up battery packs for the DataPac in the passed. Each pack contains 3 sub C nicad batteries with 2.2 amp hours each (or more). The batteries are solder tab models. Entek place at small transistor style fuse in there battery packs, just in case of a bad short (2amp?). If you need some connectors for the battery pack just email me your snail mail address are I'll mail you some.
I would advise against use non-nicad batteries as these require a different style of charger.
We have also modified our charger so that we can charger the battery packs externally or charge them via the datapac, simply by swaping a DIN plug connection.

I agree with Mike about batteries plus. Vendor batteries were in excess of $400. they took that battery and replaces the batteries in the case, cost was at that time $65 and i never had to have them reworked again. There located in Peleham Alabama, and Mobile I think.

Here is the picture of the datapac battery with the cover off. I don't think this is the same battery that is used in the Fast Track. I don't have a Fast Track collector.

Take the old batteries out of the Fast Track, and untape them. You will see that it will take 2 (I think) NP1.2-6 batteries. They are available at newark electronics (do a web search) for about $4-$6 US.

Keep the jumpers intact on the old battery for reuse in making the new one. Re-solder, tape and you should be ready to go.

I gave you the battery number earlier. You can find it at www.newark.com for $15. Manufacturer is Yuasa and the number is NP 1.2-6.

Sorry, but I don't have a diagram or a Fast Track anymore.

I'll bet some of those old IRD guy's that hang around here will come through for you though. Let's hope so because I'm working entirely from memory and it has been at least 7 years since I did it.

You can get the dataPAC 1500 batteries from interstate batteries for $34.99 each. This is the complete pack of three C cell nicad batteries including the fuse and connector. It takes two packs. The part number is NIC 1167. It took me about three week to get them.
