Jon Chandler at Spintelligent Labs used to offer magnetic targets for less than $1 each but we don't know what happened to him.
Anybody got a line on cheap targets? Danny |

We get ours made by a local engineering workshop. They are parted off from a stock bar of ferritic stainless steel approx 30mm diameter. They put a 6mm hole through the middle just to make parting off easier. I'm currently using Devcon Plastic Welder to attach them. I've trialled several glues and this is the best that I've found up to now.

If you're not looking for a threaded target, how about a washer...I've used them with good results...they may not work in all situations, but they are cheap...

Bill, unless you know something we don't, Spintelligent is "incommunicado" (and no, that's not a resort in Mexico

Bill,
The phone number has been disconnected and there is no new number listed. Danny |

So, that is a link that I don't need to keep.

Danny, depending on what you are trying to do try Edmunds Scientific. And while you are there you can do early Christmas shopping for the kids. Great place for "learning."

John,
Just doing route data. I now have one of my "kids" collecting data and it will make repeatability better. Cool site. I wish I had know about it while I still had "kids" Danny |

Danny, I tried the email address for Spintelligent and got a reply from Eric Thompson. He says: "Pricing is $60 for the bag of 100, and shipping is $8.95 for up to 20 bags." I don't think you can buy stainless washers that cheap. I am awaiting info on how exactly to order them, and maybe on what's going on at Spintelligent. Will let you know.
You know, buying stainless washers wouldn't be a very good idea since they are unlikely to be magnetic. Of course I knew that, but sometimes we overlook the obvious. Thanks Bill, for pointing that out. This message has been edited. Last edited by: rustythevibeguy, Regards, Rusty |

I'll give it a try too.

If one is using stainless washers one must ensure they are magnetic if the intention is to use magnets.

Rusty,
Did you ever get any further response from Eric? I e-mailed him and got no answer. Some grades of stainless are magnetic but I'm not sure what grade is used in generic "stainless steel" washers. Probably 303 which isn't magnetic. Danny |

300 series stainless steel is not magnetic. Ferritic stainless steel is magnetic. I have had good success with 430 series stainless steel disks from Minneapolis washer. You specify a thickness and diameter and buy a sheet of material. They produce the disks and ship them. I know when I originally bought some from this company they were only pennies each. Not sure what the current price is what with the increase in raw materials.
