Can anyone give me a brief run down on how to set up an orbit on a 2120

In the database signal/sensorinfo points need to be paired for simultaneous data collection. Signal group numbers starting with two (eg. 20) identify a paired set of points, channel one and two need to be identified.

With the 2120, both points need to be set to channel 1, about 1/2 way down in the sensor / signal screen. With the 2130, paired channels are 1 and 2. As JJF said, groups begin at "20" and go up as you add pairs.

You may have to play with data collection to get an orbit you like. See text of a note i received from Bill Foiles:>

3 or 4 cycles is a good number, up to 8 or so. To many cycles, orbits, and it can get messy.

If you have a max frequency of 1000 Hz and 800 lines (probably collect 1024 samples). The sampling frequency is > 2000 Hz. This must give you a period of around 0.5 seconds of data. LOR? Lines of resolution – I wouldn’t decrease these (400 will do an adequate job if you go that way for 2 or 3 cycles). I don’t recall the speed of the equipment, but at 60 Hz this would be about 30 cycles (if the arithmetic is correct?)’ 30 Hz, 1800 rpm would be half that.

For starters, approximate the number of cycles in the orbit. Increase the frequency to get this down to 3 or 4, more if you like. 5000 Hz would decrease the number of cycles by a factor of 5, keeping the 800 lines of resolution.

Bill Foiles
