I have amonthly route in a production plant. They want me to analysis slow rolling bearings. The rpm on the dodge bearings are anywhere from 300 rpm to 10 rpm. Does anyone have any advise on how to test these. Accelerometers? IPS? Spike energy? Any advise would help. Thnks for your time.

Do a search on "slow speed" and see how many prior posts you find. There have been a couple within the past three weeks.

There is a big gap between 300 and 10 rpm.

Each would be a little difference in the setup, Fmax, lines, enveloping, etc.

I personally do not recommend using an order based setup for the Fmax. Just my opinion, and my feelings toward order regulated Fmaxs, especially on a piece of equipment with a huge speed change range from survey to survey. Peakvue, if you have this feature, has a limited number of default Fmax ranges and these could change with an order based setup to the extent that the data might even be worthless or out of range from time to time, for what you want to see, if the Fmax defaults to an extreme in one direction or the other.

First off, what meter and software do you use?

If you are using Spike, use the 100 or 200 Hz gSE filters for that going <100 RPM. Probably the 500Hz for 200 to 300. F-max of about 15 to 30K, depending on speed. I like to only use 1 Avg. when trying the filters out, and if I get good peaks, I leave it at 1. If it appears there is noise, I'll average up to 4 times. Play with it a little bit off line (go to offroute and then user). Set it up for 0 avg and it will be a continuosly updating spectra you can watch and see what it looks like.

I also like a TWF on those real slow moving ones.
