Hello,
Just wondering if there are any guidelines or procedures written explaining how to check the calibration of an accelerometer using a portable shaker (emitting 1g @ 159.2 Hz). I have such questions as: - What is the sensitivity input (100 mV/g or ~92 mV/g as per the original certificate); - I'm assuming the magnetic base must be removed... but should the sensor be handheld on the shaker?; - What tolerances are acceptable (+/- 10%); Thanks, Vibex |

A few tips: 1) Make sure weight of accelerometer and attached cable-connector is less than weight limit of calibrator 2) Attach accelerometer with stud or wax (if light weight) 3) Use certified sensitivity value 4) Use a calibrated analyzer or measurement instrument 5) The tolerance is probably somewhere within the tolerances of the accelerometer (factory sensitivity), shaker, and measurement instrument I assume you are trying to make a field or shop calibration and not a lab calibration to traceable standards. I used to setup a measurement point with measurement parameter set and alarm set, and put it on each Route of the portable analyzer. The user then has to make a calibration check when starting each route. I haven't seen anyone else do this procedure! Walt |

I never heard of calibrating accelerometers before every route..But it is good to avoid any unexpected problems in the field. Normally we required to calibrate our Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement Instrument and sensors before each job..But vibration sensors!!!Did anybody else doing the same? Actaully this is a good procedure if too many people are using the instruments and you don't know whether someone dropped it or not!! Have a nice day!! |
