What are some of the highest vibration levels you have recorded velocity overall readings on rotating equipment that you check? It was my understanding that it was impoosible to get above 2 ips for any extended time.

Hi liver,

I recorded around 1700mm/s in one of the Fan Bearings and 700mm/s in one pump bearing.. May be nobody can beat this!! Smiler

Have a nice day!!

My record is 100 mm/s rms and I found this very painfull. I was hardly unable to put my magnetic base on the frame and take it away from the frame.
Don't worry Jenish, nobody will beat your record because not many have sensors with your suberbe overload capacity...

I had the roght angle gearbox with vibration level up to 17 in/sec pk. The 2130 was showing this value but the data could not be collected due to overloading of the probe. I had to hold the probe with the magnet as on its own was traveling all over the gearbox:-)
I collected some data from the points away from the highest level. Based on this data I saw some unusual bearing frequencies and recommended to pull the gearbox for inspection. All the ball bearings were badly corroded.

5 in/sec on a diesel-gearbox-blower machine train. The 5 in/sec was on the gearbox which I was investigating for the OEM. After mounting the transducers the machine was started and I said to the operator the levels looked fine - he then informed me all my magnetic mount velocity coils were on the floor!

The gearbox was mounted on a very high pedestal which had a resonance cantilevered off the floor. This was also coupled with a diesel generated torsional resonance. Fortunately everything was relatively easy to fix and the system was up an operating well a week later.
