Is there anybody out there except CSI who does calibrations and/or repairs of 2120's? If so, what do you think of them? Preferrably somebody in the continental U.S.

Thanks in advance,

Frank

Frank,

The company to which Alec refers is Vibration Analysis Limited. Ms. Darlene Turner, President/Owner, is a former Senior Instrument Technician of IRD Mechanalysis that left to start her company.

Try: www.vibrationanalysis.net or www.calibrationmadeeasy.com.
Good luck!

Ali,

The company I pointed out (with whom I am not currently affiliated) can repair most vibration measuring equipment. As with most microprocessor-based instrumentation, repair depends upon the evaluated defect.

For example, if a defective component on a multi-layered PCB assembly is determined to be the problem, the only available alternative is to advise the product owner of this fact and either go to the OEM for replacement components/assemblies or return the equipment to the owner for a decision. If the repair entails broken wires, battery replacement, etc., or replacement of a discrete component not tied to a major assembly, it can be effortlessly performed in most cases.

I hope this helps.

I guess I should have clarified: "Anyone except CSI or Vibration Analysis Limited." VAL has had one of my 2120's for the past month and won't return my phone calls. I do NOT recommend using their service if you plan on needing your 2120 again in several weeks.
PorterMax I have not yet looked into so I cannot comment on them.
My problem is I have an aging bunch of 2120's that are starting to nickel and dime me. I can't stand having to pay several thousand dollars to send one to CSI for repair/cal and would really like to find a RELIABLE independent source who can address my needs. My only other alternative is to transition from CSI to another brand, such as CommTest. But then that leaves me with 7 2120's sitting on the shelf and 3 licenses of RBMware.
Sorry for the rant, just frustrated. Thanks to all for your responses.

I have had 2 repairs to my 2120 in 11 years. I believe they charge about $1700 to repair one if it's not under maintenance (but they may have gone up since then). It includes calibration and firmware updates. I've always thought it was a good deal. I wouldn't trade my 2120 for anything... it just keeps going, and going, and going. But that's just my opinion.

Rusty

Yes, you could say prices have gone up a little. I just got a quote for repair to my 2120 and the one-time cost is now $2815, if you need NIST cal add $780.
To put it back under maintenance is $2165, plus an $865 penalty because I let my data collector go out of maintenance for more than 3 months, plus $520 if you need NIST cal.
IMO, there is nothing about CSI that is a good deal anymore. While I do love my 2120, I do not enjoy the "grab your ankles" approach that CSI sticks to their customers.
