Hey Wild Bill; half passed what? I was looking for breaktime!

I used to keep the little dwg in my hard hat; good place for notes; I was hoping for osmosis.

Cordially,
Sam

Dear Byron,

Go back to the first page of this post; there is a message I have left with a link to the programs - make sure you load all the subroutines for the IRD one. That message continues on page 2 of this post.

I have a general question about 2-plane balancing. I need to get more involved with this here where I am. I' starting find myself in situations where single plane doesn't do it anymore...

When taking the reference runs, (each bearing separatly) I need to know after taking the ref. run on #3 bearing, does the trial weight go on, the inbd side of the fan blade or the outboard side?

Also the same on #4, which side of the blade will I attach the weight? I can't seem to find any literature on this. Or does this even matter, as long as you use the same method as described above? Also most of our blade widths are between 6 to 12 inches...

Thanks,
Rod

Hi Rockin' Rod,

Your final correction weights were determined from your trial weights size and position.
Therefore, your final correction weights MUST be fixed in the same plane as your trial weights were installed.

I dont believe that there is litterature on that particular subject - common sense is the rule in this case.

When you have installed your trial weights, you expected to know their influence on the balancing. So, if you install final corection weights elsewhere... you are doomed and you will NEVER resolve your balancing problem.

I usually end my responses by a statement that goes like this : I may be wrong but...

But in this particular case : I AM COMPLETELY SURE OF WHAT I HAVE JUST STATED !

Greetings,

Markoleo

I did some digging and found my answers in my SFK Microlog manual. I just tried balancing a fan, but didn't even get to the trial wt part. I think the reason why is because the fan did not have a two-plane balance problem...Both my reference runs from position A to B had the same phase readings, within 4 degrees...Hmmm...

So this being the case I assume the SKF did not see a coupled or dynamic balance problem so it failed to continue to the trim stages...

Is this correct, for those of you who use the Microlog SKF CMVA 65

I used LaTeX with the pstricks package. All is freeware.

There is an excellent help file/tutorial from the organization in India.

An ink-dipped broom straw and fix your paper on a clipboard. Want time domain, construct a slide and move it 1"/10 sec. Tape on a mirror and use a laser pointer to reflect back onto a graph; 3' to machine, 9' to graph and of course spray some WD-40 on a shiney shaft and reflect back - end view gives misalignment as an added bonus. But don't discount chickens bones and tea leaves. And count the lumps; how many do you want?
