Hi all,

Just wanted to share that due to the magnetic mounts I use to attach accelerometers, the airline wouldn't check my data collector case and I missed a flight.

Apparently is an airplane regulation they are strictly enforcing now. Something to consider for future airtravel with data collectors.

Yet another reason for stud mounting Wink

Elias,

Was the only complaint the magnets? Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for the heads up.

The only complaint was related to the magnets. TSA regulations limit the magnetic fields to 2.9 miliGauss. I couldn't prove if my magnet was above or below that. I should check with a gussimeter, but i'm sure its above that.

Their rule of thumb is to limit magnets to the size of a finger tip. The little magnet that comes with datapacs should be allowed by that standard.

I will look more into this, as I have to travel with my data collector often.

I travel with magnets some and have never had a problem. In fact, I just flew to Denver with six magnets significantly larger than a fingertip. Most of my travel is within the US and Puerto Rico though. I noticed your location is Vancouver. Was this a Canadian thing, or does the rule apply to other countries?

For just this reason, we at BN have had six SuperMags tested in a metal box and have certs that they meet the requirement. This all came about from someone being flagged 10+ years ago (even before TSA).

We ship to the site if we need large quantities of magnets.

Elias,

Maybe you should just respond in a very arrogant tone that any fool would know that these magnets are less than 2.9 milliGauss. Wink

If you had a metal plate in your head, you'd be worried too! But how on earth would the magnets effect air - basically my last venture was airheads. Four gave me a ration - basically unable to speak english and appeared to be TCN's for USA.

If your magnets are 2-rail magnets, you might lower the 'field' by attaching them to each other (rail to rail) instead of the typical flatwasher. This might 'cancel' some of the magnetic field.
