I just moved from the 2120 to the 2130. I found that the tach choices were now limited. The reason is that the 2130 provides only 5V to the tach. This will not power standard tachs. Thus, an external power supply is required. Alternatively, you can purchase a CSI tach. Then, you are limited in cable length to what they offer. Banner makes 5V mini-beams. I purchased a SM312LVM5VQD. I purchased a CSI tach cable for the 404B. I cut off the AMP connector that was already installed to plug in the 404B. Here is how it is wired: A 20K ohm resistor must be installed between CSI black and brown. From the Banner: Blue to CSI Ground wire (uninsulated). White to CSI Black. Brown to CSI Brown. I purchased a 6' and a 50' quick connect cable from banner. Project cost: about $200 plus $80 for the CSI cable.

What kind of tach are you using, photo cell or laser? I haven't had any issues with the laser options that connect via bnc. And I can run a bnc cable half way across town. Ofcoarse the lasers take small batteries but what doesn't now days. Good Luck.

Jason-it is a photo-electric sensor. I understand what you are saying about the advantages of BNC. However, I did not want yet another set of batteries to be concerned about. (You should see the array of battery chargers on the floor of my office!).

I use the IRD/TEC lasetach and the Monarch PLT-200 laser tachs which both use AA batteries. You will find the 2130 battery life to be much shorter than the 2120's. Easier for me to change tach batteries than to wait on the 2130 to recharge.

But thanks for the good info just the same!

I have noticed the 2310 plowing through its battery. I made changes to the back lite. So far, it has made it through the day, but I have to wonder, why they don't use Lithium Ion batteries--More Power, less mass, but more expense.
