Not sure if this is helpful, but we used to have some permantly mounted sensors (not sure if they were velocity probes or accelerometers) that were marketed by Bentley Nevada that fed back to a "receiver box" in the field that displayed overall levels. There was also a BNC connector that data could be pulled off of the box with a portable data collector. If memory serves me right, these things could be programmed to look at certain frequency bands that were user set. They also few back to DCS and gave operators a trendable overall level that would alarm when a certain alert or fault was reached. I don't think it would shut the equipment down, but it might be possible to program it to do so. I can't say for sure that they (Bentley Nevada) still offers this or if it is even pertinent to your situation, but just thought I'd lay it on the table.
