I would like to discuss vibrations recorded by the vibration application on iphone. Things such as:

How to know which axis belongs to which direction.

Accuracy.

How to place the device in order to record the vibration.

Have you checked out his site?

http://www.dld-llc.com/Diffrac...n_LLC/Vibration.html

stand phone upright, home button at bottom, X axis is up and down; Y axis runs from side to side; Z axis is through the screen.

Weird. There is an accelerometer built into the standard consumer-version iPhone and iPod Touch? Why?

Pete,

How do you think it knows when to turn the screen from portrait to landscape? You turn the device and the screen changes because of the accels inside.

iPhone does not have to have an accel which responds to acceleration only in order to do that. It rather needs a simple positioning sensor.

Had dinner with the one and only Nelson Baxter Sunday nite, and he whipped out his IPhone and said "watch this...."

And sure enough, three axis spectra, etc. I was flabbergasted. A serious vibration analyzer? Of course not, but it DOES work. NB had downloaded a $4 app that does spectral displays, etc.........

I suddenly feel very very old..... Smiler

You know you can download an app that turns the phone into a bar scanner. And you can download an app for Golf courses that will tell you how far it is to the green.
So.....doing vibration walk around with I-phone you can put a bar code on the bearing, scan it, find the quickest and cheapest way to get it delivered and then go play golf on the extra time that you have.
What ever happened to the nickel?
