I zipped a large RBMWare V4.92 datatbase using their archive utility and tried to restore it into my V 4.81 and it failed to open due to the presence of 6 files already on my computer. They are: CsiSite.ini, DBlookup.mdb, olvcfg.cfg, parms.mdb, WDAtlas.mdb and usr_cmp.wh

Does anybody know what these files do, if I can delete them or if I am trying something that just won't work?

.mdb file extensions are associated with MS Access - or, and I'm not familiar with how RBMware operates - RBMware is using MS Access as a shell for some or all of its functionality.

If the newer version altered tables, then compatibility between versions is not likely.

You could try moving the files to a safe location and re-try the restore...

Danny,

According to CSI, which may or may not be correct, once a database is "upgraded" to a new version of RBM, it can not be opened by an earlier version.

Hope you disprove this. Smiler Would be nice since I do not have the 4.9x version, yet.

Jamie,

RBMWare does use Access to some degree and I'm not sure what. I know there is a .mdb file accosiated with each database.

I could try it, but I could also put myself out of business doing so. Eeker I have to decide how far away a safe location really is.

Ralph,

I hope so, too, but I don't have too high hopes. I'll let you know how this progresses or regresses whichever the case may be.

Danny,

I zipped a database in 4.80 and then tried to restore it back into the same 4.80 and it wiil not do this.

What is the purpose of the DBzip program if I can't put a zipped file back into any version? Am I doing something wrong? This is the first time I have even tried to use this program.

Seems like some bugs are loose somewhere. Smiler

Ralph,

There could be. I seem to remember having trouble with it on the other occasion I needed to use it.

I have always just copied the .rbm, the ._rb and the.dbz files and had everything work, but this is a really big database, so zipping it seemed like a good idea.

Danny,

Yeah, definitely don't do anything that could jeopardize the integrity of your database.

Jamie,

Being a consultant, the integrity of my database is directly proportional to the balance in my bank account.

You've probably figured this out by now--there's no going back. Some of those files you mentioned at the top are explained in the help files. The .ini file stores some generic parameters about how you like RBMware. DBLookup has some RBMview info I think. WDAtlas is the wear data atlas for oil analysis and the usr_cmp file is the warehouse file for all the info from Wizard.

Probably the reason it failed to open or restore the archive is you're not set up as a power user. So you can either change this in RBMadmin or unzip the file to a dummy folder somewhere and move the files over manually. But this doesn't matter since you're trying to change between versions.

Patrick,

Thanks for the info. This became a non-issue on Friday since I am now doing the work on-site rather than in my office.

Thanks again,

Danny
