Not sure if this is the right forum, or category, but I needed to ask if anyone using the SKF and Machine Analyst 3.1 software, can give me some pointers on how to add bearing fault frequencies to some new equipment that we added at our other plant in Texas. I've been assigned here for a short week to train some new men on taking data, uploading, and downloading from the Machine Analyst...I've been using this program for 5 years, but everything in the Heiarchy was put in by our engineers.
Normally a machine we already have on file, I will copy and paste to the Heiarchy, then rename the machine. All the info will already be in there, alarms, etc... Once I get the specs on the bearings in these new pumps, how do I incorporate this data into the software? I can do everything else, but not sure how do add those bearings. They added this task to me while here, and I hate to leave Friday without that in there... Thanks, Rod R. Bell Baton Rouge, LA |

I haven't any help on your questions, as I have never worked with your brand of equipment, but what you said in the quote above is a prime example why "engineers" or anyone else who is not going to use the "programs" on a regular basis should not take over on the setting up of anything in the databases. I have seen this in several plants where new programs have started and it never works. The guys using the equipment and who are to be adjusting and tweeking the database, should, in my opinion, be the ones trained in setups. I just don't understand why the company and the engineers thinks only engineers have the ability to setup a database. Of course this is only my opinion and I could be totally wrong. |

We're using M/A 2.2. The technique I use is to add each bearing individually. I know there is a way to create groups of bearings, and assign bearings by selecting from the group you create...but I just select from the entire database each time. It's probably not the most efficient...but it's me baby.
Start from "Hierarchy" Hi-lite the selected point R. Click selected point - See pop-up menu L. Click "Properties" L. Click "Frequencies" Check the box "Private frequency set" L. Click "Bearings" Open pull-down menu at "Select Manufacturer" L. Click the bearing manufacturer from list Enter the bearing number L. Click "Find" L. Click the desired bearing from the list L. Click "Include" L. Click "OK" (not "add". "add" will create a group) L. Click "OK" Please call me today if you have problems. Leave a message if I don't answer and I'll call back. I agree with you Ralph...For some reason it has also been my experience to see only engineers program the bearing freq.
The actual technicians should also know this. I'm learning it now with the SKF help program, and hopefully with some of the more experienced ones here in this forum...I hate to add new machines to a database and not have the bearing frequencies in there with it.. Thanks, Rod

Hi George,
I'll take a look at what you have posted here in regards to our Machine Analyst 3.1 There may be some differences there. I took a whack at it early this morning on the pump 3HACC point, actually entered the bearing number SKF 7311 in the frequency set-up, it looked like it went in, but when I went to the hierarchy and looked at the spectrum on that point, the frequencies weren't there... Must have forgotten something... Thanks for the info, Rod

George,
I did everything right this morning except after I selected the bearing number I failed to click "include"...I went directly to the "OK" button...Got close... I appreciate that pointer very much! I'll go back in here and finish the machine. Thanks, Rodney R. Bell Baton Rouge, LA |

SKF also has their own user forum - Dr. Bob Jones and others can assist you - can register here:

Very good Dave, thanks, I'll look into that...

Rockin´Rod
You have to be Analyst or Admin in MA to change bearings but it´s same in 2,2 and 3,1 but in 3.2 is is much easyier to change Z and bearings So check that you have Analyst level in MA Best Regards |

I've been having administrative rights to all the features of our 3.1 analyst. It was just a matter of hitting all the right buttons...In fact I am at present going through or files gathering data on bearings in most all our pumps, which do not have bearing frequencies, and I'm adding those in as we speak. Very simple task once you learn it!
