electricpete,
I took Ralph's "Practical Solutions to Machinery and Maintenance Vibration Problems" class in early '05. I haven't been to Updates web site in quite some time and didn’t know he added his book to the site. He definitely stresses resonance with an emphasis on imbalance. The class was great. Didn't like Denver so much tho. Do you know if Ralph is still teaching or has he retired?

Hi noisemakr

I haven't seen Ralph B. since Fall 2000 when he gave a week-long class at our plant which was my introduction to vibration.

It made a great impression on me. He has lots of experience and provides very practical information. He communicated in a direct non-mathematical way that everyone in the class could relate to (even the managers that were sitting in on the class!).

My only complaint is that now all our managers think they are vibration experts ;-) (Just kidding - actually having managers that understand your work and your terminology and occasionally make worthwhile suggestions is a great thing.)

Ralph has captured most of that great info in his book which is available for free on-line. I don't know what he's up to lately.

Ralph B. gave a presentation (about resonance) at the 2005 EPRI PdMUG in Denver. He was a pleasure to listen to and talk with and as Pete mentioned, he is very practical.

If you get a chance to take a class or speak with him, I recommend you take it.
