Yes! Of course, yesterday in my non-real job, I worked about 14 hours, mainly editing an instruction manual and then programming. At least, I didn't have to leave home to do these things. I also didn't have to get around any noisy, dangerous machinery!

Didn't Sam chose to seek honest employment?

I've always sought honest employment - know where any is? Among my several hats are: Maint Mgr Maint Systems for Alcan, and consultant to whomever will listen and pay, author and reseller for Conditech.

Knife making, gun making are hobbies when I get my blacksmith shop setup. Was making 'em the modern way. Know anyone else that does motor yatching in buckskins? It's in keeping with my mental being - mixed-up!

Congrats to those who have made it to the top and can enjoy the fruits of their labor. Smiler
Meanwhile the rest of us are sweating while collecting data on a hot paper machine dreaming about motor yachting in our buckskins and driving golf balls off the top deck. Wink

It's a long way to the middle; don't have a clue what the top is like - well, maybe a clue!

But full-time consulting is hectic with 10-14 hr days and travel. My son always said, Dad, get a life; you can't live in front of a computer all the time.

My solution to getting a life was: 'getting a real job' and having one place to go to each evening. Plus it is rewarding to work from the inside. Taking a plant to planned/scheduled maintenance is a good feeling and personally satisfying. Kinda makes me want to do it again and again - love this stuff.

Sam, once you get this plant "all lined out" you'll get bored I bet, and probably look for another plant to "fix."

As for the long days, not having a "real job" certainly doesn't mean we don't work as hard as those that do. Most days, we probably work harder since we don't have official starting and stopping times, break times, vacation, holidays, etc. We have the privilege of being available/expected to work 24/7/365! Wink

Rusty

So the world improve ey? I tell my "kids", that study computer science, to let go of the PC and get a life and they still say, "Never your way anyway, to much work, not enough money". I was able to buy out my partners cash so I now have a family company again and can do about my own but that is another story. Olov

Dave,

Sure am! I'm with Alcan Aluminum. Was up at the Stern Wheeler festival; took the boat up FRI and came back SUN. Ah, life on the river.

Now the world can brace itself for "Mothman" - yeap; it's time for Mothman in Point Pleasant, WV - believe it or not!

Sam,

Good luck Big Grin Is the guy (Jerry?) from down toward St. Marys still in there?

I wasn't here for Sternwheel. Way too many people most of the time. I come down Rt. 2 all the time going to see my parents (South Side, WV, up 35). I'll look and see if I can see where you live next time through.

Not el grande rotunda; not unlike me anymore - holdin' steady @215# though.

I'm in Millwood Dave, off ex 146 (Ravenswood) O= 304 273 6508 or C= 304 444 5255.

Jerry isn't here; he was leaving when I got here. He had been a salesman for CSI is my understanding for one year and this place was a bit much. I had to throw away everything and start over. We are now at a position of planned/scheduled maintenance. It is a slow process as with all new programs but we say, "that pump will fail in six weeks" - just wait eight and see. So, calling it right time after time gives credibility. Plus made some major saves. Getting all onboard is still frustrating but just keep on pluggin'.

Dave, call or stop by. I'm in Marietta and Parkersburg ever so often. But kind of a stay-at-home person for the most part.

Dave ain't fat but it's always the skinny one's that can really pack it in. If he can eat my cooking, he sure isn't picky, though. He's pretty good company, too.

I'll see you some time. I come through Millwood. I also come next door to you (or is that next fence?) quite regularly. I know what you mean about changing things up. Wink

Danny,
You rascal you. Roll Eyes I don't eat that much. Just eat all the time, not too much at one sitting.

Sam,

Do you use any consultants now that you are on the other side, the honest side.

Why not an easy question! The truth hurts.

But, yes! Don't have time for everything. Can only do so much.
