Help! We currently use a Rotalign Pro laser alignment system and we have a job coming up where we can only turn one shaft. We were wondering if anyone out there has a magnetic sliding bracket - part no. ALI2.230 for rent.
Or if one of you have made your own, let me know what you used.

Please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

thanks

They are easy to make and cheaply as well. do an ebay search for magnets get say 5/bracket and use aluminum and epoxy w/SS rod. You can press the magnets in or shrink to fit and mill afterward. No heat though may mean no warppage. There are various magnets of varying strengths; there is a huge selection; so you may opt to use a different number of magnets. If this isn't enough for your imagination; write me.

Cordially,
Sam

Thanks Sam,

We have a picture of the bracket here, and that's what my millwright is thinking of as well. We may have someone in our neighborhood that has the actual bracket to rent out, but we may still end up building our own.

Why don't you just use dial indicators? Use your standard Rotalign bracket, and attach one to sweep the O.D. of the stationary coupling, and one to sweep the face.

"Sliding" a bracket of any kind around the O.D. of the fixed coupling is going to introduce at least as much error as using dial indicators.

Rusty

Obtaining a face or axial is tough and/or impossible. If you opt to go as Rusty suggested you may be able to use two parallel or rim indicators say four inches apart off the same extension rod. Use "Last Word" indicators and take precise or exact readings and the delta per '4"?' is the angle without the thrust problem or axial movement.

Cordially,
Sam
