I have measure an increase in operating speed amplitude on a vibrating conveyor recently. I only take readings on the motor, but the vertical amplitude has gone from .429 ips to 1.31 ips over the last 9 months.
I checked for cracked springs with a tunable strobe and didn't find any. Any other suggestions? Danny |

Hi Dany,
Did the load on the conveyor changed? Best regard, Marcel |

Marcel,
I doubt it, but it is possible. Danny |

I wonder if the load isn't evenly distributed across the springs, changing the effective stiffness? The static height of all the springs should be the same if the load is even.

Danny,
Check the conveyor support/foundation for loose or broken fasteners. Walt |

Walt,
It is mounted on big coil spring isolators. I looked at them with the strobe and didn't see anything, but they are guarded so that I couldn't touch the base where they are connected to the steel and check for looseness. I'll see what else we can do. Thanks, Danny |

These little night vision cameras like you photograph deer with - who's riding that thing at night? Me next!
Have a slope? Has the slope changed? Something slipped inside a sock and now touching? A dying man grabbing at a straw here. Just got out of a meeting and I'm worthless or just brain dead. So, nothing has really changed, huh?! Cordially, Sam Pickens pdmsampickens@gmail.com |

It may help to take an orbit at each corner and see if there is a difference. Of course it helps if you have a baseline or other info on the correct throw and amplitude of the vibrating conveyor. The manufacturer may have some information.
Andy of Allied Reliability is the expert on these things. Contact me if you need his contact information. Good luck! Bill Kilbey, Director of Training Mobius Institute- Modern, Visually Interactive Reliability Training |

I monitor a couple that are the balance beam style and increasing amplitudes can be caused by bearings going bad on the drive, stroke changed for some reason (this can be caused by broken or unanchored springs, removed springs that were broken), or build up of material around or in the conveyor.
I'd find out the recommended stroke for the conveyor then check the length of stroke at the ends and drive area on both sides and the balance beam if it has them. Stroke should be equal at all points. Wally K Kaz regis.Wal ter@jdir ving.com |
