Greetings,

I have little confusion when to use online vibration monitoring system - for API 610 pumps and API 611 turbines. For single line turbo-copressors API 617 / API 612, yes we have it.

For spared equipments like pumps (including drive turbine / drive motor) we do not have online monitoring system. I believe some EPC contractor uses the guide line that above 500 kW, we should have online system.

More comments / selection guidelines like this will help me in deciding the requirement.

regards.

Raj; I don't monitor turbines (paper machines) but I can tell you that I started with one 2 channel transmitter that caught a bearing defect on a press roll. I now have 19 2 channel modules and am adding 9-16 channel online boxes in the next 2 years. The system will be real time live monitoring with operator screens (for vibration alarms)Justification? Well, it comes down to $$$. 24/7 monitoring prevents unplanned downtime and protects the assets. The underwriters like it as do the production managers. A $100 bearing can cause 8 hours of downtime at let's say $20K/hr. The system is paid for........
