Howard,

I have read some of your MCA paper. There was one comment about turning off motors for the lubrication procedure. I can say that this is not happening in the majority of facilities that I have serviced over the last 15 years.

In fact, the ones that are using ultrasonics to apply grease need the bearings running. The application of ultrasonics has reduced the grease cosumption, but it is too early to determine if the amount of grease reaching the windings has been reduced. The safety issues have been addressed in this procedure by adding extensions to the grease fitting and the purge drains are now extended and valved.

Do you really think it would be too hard for motor manufacturer's to seal the grease cavity from the windings? Or is this one of their "nifty tricks" to keep selling and repairing motors?

I look forward to your comments and future posts. If you have any problems in the future, have them call me. I am very easy to find. Smiler This is a valuable forum of sharing, knowledge and debate. If anyone thinks threats or verbal abuse are welcome here, they are in a very, very small minority.
