Hello all,
I recently got called by a route customer...the plant was expanding and a large mill was being fitted with permanent monitoring from Pruftechnik. The suggestion was made that perhaps I could analyze the data and include any findings in my normal report.

Now for the questions:
How different is Omnitrend from the RBMWare that I am currently using?
Will I be able to zip a database up to a jump drive and take it with me to analyze later, or will I have to do it there?
If I take it with me, how much will it cost to get an additional copy of Omnitrend for my laptop?
If I melt dry ice can I swim without getting wet?

Hello Richard.

I use both Omnitrend and RBMware and I'm 99.99% sure that they are not compatible.

If the new plant is getting a perminant Pruftechnik system installed does that not include a copy of omnitrend?

Ian,
The plant will has a dedicated computer just for monitoring. It has Omnitrend installed, and in addition to feeding the data to Germany via internet, the data is recorded into the Omni-T database on the computer. What I would have to do would be to either:
Analyze at the site using this computer and generate a report in Word that I can insert into my normal report(ugh.)or...
I can obtain a copy of omnitrend for my laptop, and then just zip up a copy of the database, take it with me, and analyze it in the office.

I would rather the second option than the first, but if cost is prohibitive, then the customer may not go for it. Just researching my options.

Richard,

I have never used Omnitrend, but I have got the .01% of confidence that Ian is missing that they are not compatible.

Compatible and RBMware should never even be used in the same sentence without the word "not".

Good Luck,

Danny

Danny,
I 100.8% agree with you. I continue to hold the lightbulb and turn the building. It keeps the young'uns fed and the bills paid.

Knowing how PT work I would guess that they will be doing all of the analysis and reporting. Is it going to be any benefit for you to be analysing and reporting on the same data?

I'm not trying to take work away from you, but just wondering if it's worth having the job doubled-up?

I think you will need a stand alone version of the OT software that would set you back around £1100 (probably less in $). Perhaps the mill could buy an additional license for their software and have it installed on your laptop, but I don't know how legal that would be (with the license being for an outsiders computer).

MPH,
1100 pounds, huh? Added to the 12 pounds that my laptop already weighs, I don't think I can carry that Big Grin.
PT is analyzing and reporting-every six months. It was the op. manager's idea to add my extra pair of eyes to the equation. I think once he sees all that extra poundage to get me a copy, and he may nix that idea. I won't grieve much. It does indeed sound like a lot of trouble to me.
