Self repairing or final disaster? Levels dropped,
I will look inside tomorrow and data will be taken to make new internals. Will it survive until spares are made or will it self repair so they will not be needed? Not likely. Olov

It was as you could be afraid of, major damage on the ingoing pinion going under the hardened surface at least 80% of the surface area. Prior emergency repair had as a result that the big wheel is slightly excentric now, could that really make that damage or is it also a lubricate problem? I can´t imagine why that wasn´t seen at the previous times it was opened and inspected. So lesson is that gbx damage in some cases mimic some types of bearing failures where the levels drop after initial increase when internal friction go down as there are less parts left that make friction... OLI, I would not be surprised if you haven't already broken or cracked a tooth. What seems to be like the third harmonic of gearmesh frequency seem to be increasing at a scary rate. That peak sure also looks like resonance. I could tell that you had a wobbly shaft somewhere because you had serious modulation. My dollar is goes to "No you won't make it to January!"... If I loose, I will send you a turkish coffee set; how about that?

I got new readings today, the increase have continued but from the decreased value that existed after the gear tooth face practically was stripped off so it´s not as bad as it was before last opening. Increase rate is about the same as before. Complete internals spares will be fitted within 3 weeks so that January bet is off. Possibly with the minor option if it will last 3 weeks, I think it will do that, barely, as the gear tooth is pretty thick and there is a bit left before it would peel off, I hope. Maybe I could bet the paw of a polar bear on that if I had one and I suspect it also would be politically incorrect, maybe I can find some glassworks, a crystall ball is always useful :-)?
I was really suspicious at the other times they opened the box and "could not see any problems" with the data I had there must have been visual signs a couple of months before. Olov
