Is anyone using CSI laser alignment gear? I am looking to buy a new alingment kit and as we already use a 2130 CSI Analyzer, this might be the best option. Alignment and VA data can be stored together I believe.

Not sure what you mean by alignment and VA data can be stored together? but you purchase the alignment hardware and firmware and you can run both the VA and the alignment program from the one box (2130).

You can attach the alignment details to the machine in your software.

Why tie up your +20k analyzer with additional equipment purchase and be further tied to CSI. I have found it much more practical to purchase equipment designed more for the duty. The Fixturelaser Go would be much more cost effective and is a great system. Just my opinion.

I agree with you Nick.
I think companies who specialize in their hardware make a better product than someone who wants to be a jack of all products.
Kinda like if you have a heart problem, do you want your family doctor to do the analysis or a cardiologist? The family doctor may be capable, but the cardiologist knows more about it I bet.

When I worked for the OEM, I used to tout the ability to add oil analysis from any lab, anyones alignment data, thermography, etc. to Odyssey. However, I find that the reports and other information you get from the particular OEM is much easier to understand, and takes a whole lot less work to get the facts necessary to make a good decision than if your having to make up your own report and sort through a bunch of 1's and 0's. Chances are, you're going to want what the OEM has already got.

I now use the active X component to point to a file that has that necessary info and raw data, rather than store the info in my DB.

Just my Opinion.

We also use the CSI 2130's for vibration readings. But because of how big our plant is and the maintenance structure, we are using Ludeca alignment equipment. Yes its not the best scenario having to access 2 different software packages but it allows us to cover as much equipment as possible for precision alignments and still be able to cover our other equipment for vibration readings and analyzing.
We have 5 2130's and 5 2120's in use as well as 4 Rotalign Pro's and 2 Rotalign Ultra's.

So you have to figure out how much your going to need each tool for each task. If you are not going to have any conflicts then you might be able to save money by adding the alignment to your 2130. However if it will tie up your unit when you need it for vibration, then you may want to pursue another unit of some type to cover the alignment needs. Just as a side point, what if your unit gets damaged? You would then not have anything for either task...

Work hard towards the proper solution, or do nothing and become part of the problem!

There are pros and cons which either way I go but have decided after looking at a number of options, Fixturelaser looks to be what we need. As it has been pointed out, not tying up the VA analyser is one of the advantages and also no service agreement. Thank you all for your valuable feedback.

Cheers.
Geoff.

Doing paper plant shut-downs and 10 alignment jobs going at once makes an indicator approach attractive. Universal brackets typically go to 4-5" diameter shafts. Dedicated brackets are an options and the fastest method and very affordable.
