I'd like to brush up on the use of polar plots for balance jobs. Any good resourses that will walk me through the process would be appreciated. I have an old CSI training manual but it doesn't really give a lot of info. I'm interested in single as well as dual plane methods.

Go to this page...
http://www.usbr.gov/power/data/fist_pub.html

... and then right-click and download item 2-2 "Field Balancing Large Rotating Machinery, January 1983, Reprinted August 1989, Reprinted June 1994"

It is about 2.2 MB with an overview of balancing and some specific discussion of balance large vertical machines in-place.

Be a problem solver, imagine I want to mail you: Do I have an address? Can I figure it out? Hmmmm, probably not, so mail me a line if you have no mail from me. If you cannot find the direct spamsensitive address to me, use arne.lindholm@bluebottle.com and be prepared to verify that you are a person when the confirmation request mail comes back. Welcome for three files. One about the vectors in a one plane basics, one about how to find residual unbalance in your results, one in using a dial indicator to balance before a run by measuring the runout of a new hub to an old shaft. All vector mental training. The 2-plane aspect one comes to those who show interest after digesting the above. Best regards Arne
